Shad Thames Portraits
These portraits were created for a gallery who wanted to capture the architecture and people who live in Shad Thames area in London. The area, located in South London, is bordered by Tower Bridge on the West and is celebrated for the myriad of warehouses flanking the river Thames . It has endured vast changes over the last century. The 3 "portraits" are of 3 artists / designers who had lived here at different times over a period of 3 decades. Derek Jarman the filmmaker who practiced here in Butlers Wharf in the 70s, Terence Conran the designer who was instrumental in redeveloping the area in the 80s, and myself who moved into the area in the 90s. I combined these images with pre production photographs that I had shot in the 90's in preparation for the film Monomyth that was shot in one of the abandoned warehouses (now Butlers and Colonial Wharf) . Images were juxtaposed to create portraits that I felt were reflective of the characters and time.
